Wow!! It's fun to be 3! Zach seems to have an abundant supply of energy these days. He loves his new 3 year old class at school with all the new activities and fun things to do. Zach is developing quite a personality and he can be very stubborn (which could be a good thing), but also very sweet at times. He's still growing at a steady pace and he takes physical therapy once a week. We visit Boston every six months for medications, and he LOVES to ride on the airplane!! He's a very happy boy with an infectious smile...and a lot of fun to be around!!

Hi...my name is Zach. I turned 3 years old this past January. I like to play with my boats, airplanes, cars, and I like to draw and cut and glue, and my favorite book is "Green Eggs and Ham".
I go to school everyday where I play with all my friends and sing songs and write my ABC's. I have Progeria, an accelerated aging syndrome, but I don't let that stop me! I go to Boston twice a year to take medicine and I LOVE to ride in the airplane! I'm glad you are visiting my website. Please read about all the fundrasing we are doing for the Progeria Research Foundation (www.progeriaresearch.org) and also read my personal journals. Hope to see you soon!

Being two years old is great for Zach! In April, we visited Childrens Hospital in Boston to participate in a Feasibility Trial for the Progeria Research Foundation. The purpose of this one-month trial was to check the tolerability of three drugs that could potentially be used in a brand new, 2 year - Triple Play Drug trial. The side effects were minimal, so the new drug trial is approved and ZACH IS NOW RECEVING TREATMENT! Our prayers have been answered!! During this time, Zach is moving right along as a normal two year old little boy. He goes to school each day where he has a great time with his friends, learns his ABC's, counts, plays with cards, and SINGS! Zach loves to sing "Row, Row, Row Your Boat", "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star", "ABC's", and "Sponge Bob, Square Pants." He is learning so much and progressing so well that he graduated from occupational therapy. He continues to do physical therapy weekly with hopes that this will help him remain "loose" and keep his hips healthy. Zach loves to dance, play with play doh, count change in a coin sorter, watch the movie CARS, but most of all, he loves to go feed the ducks! Zach loved riding in the airplane! The trip to Boston was tough (lots of medical testing), but it's worth it...he's getting treatment! At the end of age 2, Zach weighs almost 22 lbs. and is 2 1/2' tall. But don't be fooled by his size, he is tough as nails, and strong as an ox...just ask the nurses at his doctor's office!

Gosh, it's hard to believe Zach is almost two years old! It seems like time is flying by and we are just enjoying this wild roller coaster ride of being Zach's parents. He is such a cute little boy. He is definitely an observer, and loves to check out what others are doing. He is very, very curious and usually finds something to amuse himself. During this time we opened the KY Chapter of the Progeria Research Foundation and we finally got to meet Audrey Gordon, the President of the Foundation.

What great times! We have so much fun with Zach. He is always busy, laughing or smiling about something or somebody. He really loves people, although he doesn't always go to them. He loves to talk and he's starting to really talk alot. He graduated from the infant room at school and started in the toddler room. What a change! There's a lot of excitement in that room...always something to look at or laugh about. Ms. Mary, Ms. Saundra and Ms. Dialut take good care of Zach.
Today, The Wall Street Journal reports on a landmark study, led by PRFâs Medical Director, that demonstrates the Progeria-causing protein Progerin increases in everyone as we age, suggesting a possible new risk factor for heart disease.
